The YMCA of Niagara Camp team has selected 10 things for you to do with your kids over the break!
10. You’re the Chef!
Teach your kids how to cook a new recipe or bake some cookies together for the family to share. You can even have a family Top Chef competition to see who comes up with the most creative and innovative recipe. During the summer, the YMCA has a You’re the Chef camp so this is great practice for them to be able to show their skills with us!
9. Explore Niagara
Our region has so much to offer. From the beautiful parks and historic buildings to the tourist attractions and recreational facilities, Niagara proves to be a region that offers something for everyone to do.
8. Have a Snow Day!
One of our favourite winter themes at camp is having a “Snow Day!” Play outside in the snow, build a snowman together, build a snow fort and finish the day off with hot chocolate!
7. Family Movie Night
Go out to the movies as a family to see the latest flick or stay in and watch an old favourite together. It might be difficult to settle on just one movie so you might need to vote as a family. Don’t forget the popcorn and have your kids present their best Oscar-award winning acceptance speeches to you!
6. Get Active
During the March Break, visit your local YMCA to stay active. Go for a swim, join a program or have your kids spend the day with us at camp!
5. Create Masterpieces
Is your child the next Picasso? Now is your chance to find out! Plan some craft projects for you and your kids to do together. Glitter, glue, construction paper and scissors are just a few basic materials that you need to start any project. At camp we have creative activities planned every day to develop our camper’s artistic abilities.
4. Nature Walk
Visit the local trails throughout your city. The great outdoors offer plenty to look at and explore as a family. Bundle up and see what discoveries mother nature has waiting for you!
3. Break at the Beach!
The weather may be frightful but if you use your imagination you can turn below zero into a sunny day at the beach. Winter beach days at camp are our favourite! With swimming & water activities, indoor picnics, sand activities and more, the possibilities are endless to make you feel like you’re at the beach.
2. Board Game Tournament
The campers always seem to beat the counselors at our favourite camp games. We enjoy sitting down with small groups of kids and engaging in some great conversations as we play. Share in this opportunity with your kids as well and set up a family board game tournament. Maybe the winner gets to choose what’s for dinner!
1. Go to Camp!
Can’t get the week off of work? Ran out of ideas before the break even starts? The YMCA of Niagara offers daily and weekly camp programs for kids 4-12 years old. From our kinder, junior, youth, aquatics, mad science & sports camps, there is a camp for everyone and every day there is a new adventure. Your kids will stay active, explore new skills, and most importantly, have fun over the break!
