Dykstra Announces Local Benefits of the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund
St. Catharines – Community centres, cultural centres, ice rinks, swimming pools, and other community facilities across the country, will soon be improved thanks to support from the Government of Canada’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
As part of the Government’s Economic Action Plan 2012, Rick Dykstra, Member of Parliament for St. Catharines, today announced $400,000 in federal funding for improvements to the Walker Family YMCA.
“Our government, through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, is once again demonstrating its continuing support for communities across Canada,” said Dykstra. “Here in St. Catharines, projects like this one at the Walker Family YMCA will create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our community.”
“The St. Catharines Walker Family YMCA facility has provided close to 20 years of health and wellness services to thousands of people of all ages and walks of life”, said Janet St. Amand, CEO in the Interim, YMCA of Niagara. “This wonderful matching grant of $400,000 from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF) will ensure this facility continues to provide a safe, energy efficient environment for generations to come.”
Through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, the Government of Canada has committed to supporting communities and creating jobs through repairs and improvements to existing community facilities over the next two years. Please see the backgrounder for more information on CIIF.
